Generative Solar Optimization (EZCT 2011)

This tool allows the designer to change a geometry based on the desired solar gain on any architectural envelope. The initial surface is first processed into an optimized mesh, then transmitted to the Ecotect environmental computing software, which returns results to Grasshopper via

[uto][/uto]’s Geco plugin. The solution is exported to a .3dm file (using Nicholas de Monchaux’s LocalCode plugin) preserving the parameters history of the solution. The result is then subjected to a qualitative test, which can sort the computed solution and optimize the next one (using the Galapagos evolutionary solver ). The average computation time for a solution is 13 seconds.
